Work emerges in the making

Sometimes it starts with an image that has been living in my head for a while.

Sometimes with the first layer on the canvas.

I work intuitively, but not without direction.

I love unfinished edges, accidental marks, traces of movement. The work doesn't need to explain anything. It can simply exist alongside you.

I am Anna

I am a mixed media artist. Based in Zaltbommel, the Netherlands.

My studio is my safe place. Full of stacks of paper, found materials, and things I picked up somewhere and couldn't leave behind.

EN Often messy. Usually unexpected. Always moving.

I begin with curiosity. I work with layers, with what's already there, with what wants to emerge.

Ik werk intuïtief met lagen, verschillende materialen en wat er ontstaat. Vaak rommelig. Meestal onverwacht. Altijd in beweging.

PROCESs

I look, add, and let go

I respond to what happens.

Sometimes something starts as a seed and only germinates months later. Sometimes it only emerges once I start making.

Work grows layer by layer. And sometimes it grows on into the next piece.

Gathering

Loose scraps of paper, notes and found shapes. First, everything is allowed on the table.

Shifting

Layers come and go. I place, remove, and turn over. Until it clicks.

Settling

Then suddenly it's enough. Then I leave the work alone.
